What is a sibling Doula?

A sibling doula is a specialized role that supports children who are welcoming a new sibling into their family. This role involves guiding and preparing children for the birth of a sibling, helping them navigate the emotional and logistical aspects of the transition, and offering ongoing support during the postpartum period.

Birth Support

Childcare During Labor: Some sibling doulas provide support by caring for older siblings while the birthing parent is in labor. They may stay with the child at home or accompany them to a hospital or birthing center if necessary. Emotional Support: They offer emotional support to the child before, during, and after the birth, helping them process feelings of excitement, nervousness, or jealousy. Involvement in Birth: Depending on the family's preferences and the situation, the sibling doula may facilitate the child's participation in a special, supportive role during labor or immediately after the birth (e.g., helping introduce the new sibling or meeting the baby for the first time).
